Where do Cats Like to Sleep?

Cats are very sleepy little critters. Adults sleep 12-16 hours each day, while kittens can sleep up to 20 hours per day! Being natural predators, their energy comes in bursts; they are very active and energetic while they're hunting, but they drain their energy quickly and need to replenish it with plenty of good-quality sleep. They can sometimes struggle to get the sleep they need, especially if they don't have a safe and comfortable place to sleep. Despite being predators themselves, cats in the wild are vulnerable to attacks both from larger predators and other cats that might be territorial. When they sleep, they seek out enclosed spaces where they can feel safe and hidden. Even when they live inside a home where there are no threats, they appreciate having a place to hide; it helps them relax and feel comfortable. This is especially important when a cat moves into a new home; while they adjust to the new space and learn that they're safe there, they may be more inclined to hide. They also like spaces that are warm and soft. Just like us, they like to feel comfortable when they sleep!

Cat caves are excellent for making your cat feel safe and comfortable, so they can get the sleep they need. One of our favourites is the Rose Hut from PetPals. Its plush material is ultra-soft and super comfortable, and its design is appealing and cozy. We also love the Nepalese wool caves from Karma Cat, such as the Fairy House or the Bouquet. Cats love wool, so these cute and whimsical caves are appealing to both cats and humans! Another excellent option is the Donut Tunnel from M-Pets. This is one of our most popular products for a reason! It makes an excellent hiding place and bed, cats can sleep on top or inside of it. It is also works as a scratcher and a play space, cats love to run around in it and jump on top of it, it's a great place for zoomies!

Cats also feel safe when they're up high, so perches make excellent resting places for them. Wall-mounted perches such as Hammock or the Hideout from Noba make excellent resting places. Cat trees are another excellent option for perches, they provide elevated resting places, and often have other features like built-in caves or scratchers. We have a wide variety of trees, but Medea's personal favourite is the 3-Level Tree from Noba. We find her lounging on the top perch or scratching on the natural fique rope all the time, and given its beautiful, versatile design and the fact that it's made in Canada, we love it too! We have plenty of trees with various designs, from cute and whimsical, to modern and minimalist, to stylish and versatile. We recommend visiting us in-person to see them for yourself and so we can help you find the perfect one for you and your cat!

Cats like to rotate where they sleep, choosing different locations at different times. This is a natural behaviour that they developed to avoid dangers in the wild. Providing your cat with several resting place in different locations is the best way to ensure they get the rest they need to stay healthy and happy. Every cat is different and will prefer to sleep in different locations. You can experiment with different types of beds in different locations, to see what they like best!
